A new PMU business rarely needs more ideas. It needs the right tasks in the right order. This 90-day plan is designed to move you from trained-but-unstructured to a business with safe systems, credible proof and a measurable way to attract and convert suitable clients.

Important: ninety days can build a launch system; it cannot guarantee bookings or income. Your results depend on competence, location, offer, consistency, demand and the quality of the client experience.

Before day one: define the launch

Choose one primary service and one clear audience within your competence. “Permanent makeup for everyone” is difficult to remember and harder to market. “Natural, low-maintenance brows for busy professionals in Leeds” gives you a client, outcome and geography to test—without promising a clinical or guaranteed result.

Write down your starting position: training completed, models completed, insurance status, local registration, available days, treatment location, cash budget, existing audience and portfolio strength. If the safety and compliance foundations are incomplete, begin with the PMU artist starter checklist.

Days 1–30: build foundations

Week 1: scope and positioning

  • Define the treatments you are trained, assessed and insured to offer.
  • Choose the client problem you can solve responsibly and the result style your work demonstrates.
  • List five reasons a suitable local client would choose you: consultation quality, natural style, accessibility, privacy, aftercare or another real differentiator.
  • Draft a plain-English service description that explains suitability, process, healing, maintenance and what is included.

Week 2: compliance and client journey

Confirm insurance, council and premises requirements. Build your enquiry, screening, consultation, consent, treatment-note, aftercare and concern-escalation process. Test it end to end. Your marketing should never outrun your ability to care for the person who books.

Week 3: costs, pricing and policies

Calculate treatment time, consultation and admin time, consumables, room cost, insurance, software, tax allowance, touch-up policy and the margin needed for a sustainable service. Then compare your position with the local market. Our PMU pricing guide explains the calculation.

Week 4: proof before promotion

Create a compact portfolio from suitable, consented cases. Show consistent before, immediate-after and healed images where available, with honest context. Avoid filters and dramatic lighting changes. A small truthful portfolio is more useful than a large confusing one.

Days 31–60: become findable and credible

Build a local search foundation

Create or improve your Google Business Profile if eligible. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Complete and accurate information, verification, current hours, reviews and photographs all help people understand the business. Read Google’s official local ranking guidance and our Google Business Profile guide for PMU artists.

  • Use your real-world business name and the most accurate available category.
  • Add correct contact details, booking destination, hours and service area.
  • Publish original room, team and treatment-result imagery with permission.
  • Build one strong local service page that answers actual client questions.

Create a four-part content system

  1. Suitability: who a service may or may not suit.
  2. Process: consultation, mapping, treatment and healing.
  3. Proof: consented case studies with truthful context.
  4. Trust: training, hygiene, room, aftercare and professional boundaries.

Turn one client question into one useful page or post each week. Do not publish near-duplicate location pages. A page should exist because it genuinely helps that audience.

Make enquiries easy to handle

Use a short response process: acknowledge the enquiry, ask a few screening questions, explain the next step and provide a realistic response time. Do not diagnose from a social-media photograph. Move sensitive details into an appropriate secure channel.

Days 61–90: improve conversion and retention

Review the funnel

Count meaningful actions rather than likes. Each week, record:

MetricWhat it revealsUseful response
Qualified enquiriesWhether your message reaches suitable peopleRefine audience, topic and local visibility
Consultations bookedWhether the next step feels clear and trustworthyImprove response speed and consultation explanation
Treatments bookedWhether suitability, value and expectations alignReview objections, proof, price presentation and availability
Cancellations or no-showsWhether policy and reminders workClarify terms and strengthen reminders
Healed follow-ups and referralsWhether experience continues after treatmentImprove aftercare and follow-up consistency

Build an ethical review routine

Ask genuine clients for an honest review after a meaningful interaction. Google prohibits incentives such as free or discounted goods or services in exchange for reviews, review changes or removal of negative reviews. Follow its official review guidance.

Protect time for better work

By day 90, create weekly blocks for clients, admin, accounts, content, stock, follow-up and professional development. If every spare hour becomes a discounted appointment, the business will struggle to improve.

A repeatable weekly launch rhythm

  • Monday: pipeline, diary, accounts and stock.
  • Tuesday: client work and case documentation.
  • Wednesday: one search-led article or useful client question.
  • Thursday: client work and follow-up.
  • Friday: local partnerships, profile updates and scorecard review.

Adapt the days to your schedule; preserve the functions. Artists building around another job may use two focused evenings and one half-day instead.

What not to do in the first 90 days

  • Offer every treatment to avoid choosing a position.
  • Spend the full launch budget on décor, branding or followers.
  • Run paid ads before consultation and follow-up systems work.
  • Discount repeatedly without understanding cost and capacity.
  • Promise pain-free, risk-free, permanent or guaranteed results.
  • Measure success only by social reach.

Frequently asked questions

Can I launch a PMU business while working another job?

Yes, if your diary leaves enough time for consultation, records, treatment, cleaning, aftercare and business administration. Limit availability honestly rather than overbooking.

How much should I spend on marketing?

There is no universal figure. Fund the legal, safety and client-experience foundations first. Begin with low-cost local visibility and useful content, then test paid activity with a fixed amount you can afford to lose.

How soon should I expect regular clients?

No responsible plan can promise a date. Local demand, skills, offer, proof, price, availability and consistency all affect growth. Use the scorecard to find the current constraint.

Do I need a website before launching?

You need a trustworthy place containing accurate service, suitability, location, policy and contact information. A focused website gives you more control and search visibility, but it should support—not delay—a safe launch.

Your next step

Choose the current 30-day phase, schedule its weekly actions and record your baseline numbers. For a broader foundation, use the PMU business start-up guide, then explore Powdrr training and business support.
